Frequently Asked Questions about membership in Callaway Christian Church

Q1: Are there any requirements for membership at Callaway Christian Church?

A1: Yes. To place membership at Callaway you must have surrendered your life to follow Jesus Christ. This means that you have accepted him as your personal Lord and Savior and that you are following him as the Lord of your life. Our membership requirements are based on the New Testament scriptures set forth in the book of Romans.

First, admit that you (and everyone else) have sinned (Romans 3:23). Next, understand the penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23). Then, acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God’s only Son and that he paid the penalty for your sins by his death upon a cross (Romans 5:8, 10:9-10). And finally, follow Christ through baptism by immersion into his death, burial and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4).

Q2:
When should I become a member of Callaway Christian Church?

A2: This answer is different for each individual person. Some are ready to place their membership after only a few visits. Others require more time to explore the teachings, beliefs and expectations of Callaway. However, if you are faithful attendee; if you have entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ and have been baptized by immersion for the forgiveness of sin; and if you are ready to consider Callaway your church home, then it is the right time to become a member.

Q3:
How do I become a member of Callaway Christian Church?

A3: When you are baptized you may declare your intentions to become a member of Callaway. If you are already a baptized believer, you can respond to the invitation extended each Sunday worship with your intent to place membership.

Q4:
If I have already received Christ and have been baptized by immersion in another church, will I have to be baptized again to be a member of Callaway Christian Church?

A4: The answer in most situations is no. Baptism is into God’s family and not a particular church. However, some people choose to be baptized again if they feel their baptism was for the wrong reasons, such as an adult who was baptized as a child because of pressure from a friend or parent. If you have any questions, we would be happy to discuss them with you.

Q5:
Do I have to be a member to serve at Callaway Christian Church?

A5: Some of our ministry opportunities at Callaway don’t require you to be a member. However, many of our ministry opportunities do require membership. As a guideline, membership is required for leadership and teaching roles at Callaway.

Q6:
What is expected of me as a member?

A6: Church membership is valuable to both the member and the church, and both have certain responsibilities that accompany the membership commitment. Through membership, the church is committing to spiritual care and development of the members and the member is committing to personal growth and participation in the life and mission of the church.
